About

The Warwick String Group (WSG) is a friendly improvement group of about 20 players – violins, violas, cellos and basses.

We meet between 10:00 and 12:00 on Friday mornings at the Friends Meeting House (FMH) in Warwick. We have a 20 min coffee break with food and drink available from the excellent FMH café. There are normally 10 sessions per term.

We are led by a tutor/conductor.
This was Philip Gallaway of the Coull quartet until his very sad, untimely and unexpected passing in October 2025. We all miss him greatly.
We have been very fortunate to have found a new tutor in Nic Fallowfield of the Tedesca quartet who knew Philip well and was also kind enough to step in for him on our Playday. Nic, together with Jenny Curtis (also of the Tedesca and who occasionally coaches us too) helped make it a successful and most memorable day.

We do not give concerts but work on a variety of repertoire chosen principally by the steering committee taking into account suggestions raised by the membership. For instance, we recently played:

  • Ireland – Downland Suite
  • Nielsen – Little Suite
  • Lennon – Eleanor Rigby
  • Warlock – Capriol Suite
  • Bartok – Rumanian Dances
  • Handel – Concerto Grosso Op 6
